Tobe Nwigwe and the National Symphony Orchestra

What a night! I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with Tobe Nwigwe and the National Symphony Orchestra.  This concert joins a series of successful shows I have collaborated on with the NSO over the past decade, featuring artists such as Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Killer Mike, and many others. It was wonderful to be reunited with conductor Steven Reineke and the National Symphony Orchestra. Thank you to the other arrangers - Jeremy Levy, Lauren Elizabeth Baba, Derrick Hodge and Jongnic Bontemps - for their contributions,…

Agatha All Along is out!

Agatha All Along is now streaming on Disney+! It was a pleasure to orchestrate the music by Christophe Beck and Michael Paraskevas for this cool project. A lot of hours of musical wizardry, orchestrated mostly by myself and Jeremy Levy, with the help of Lorenzo Carrano, Ryan Humphrey, and Jordan Siegel. Thank you to the team at Joann Kane Music Services, Fer Bos, Matthew Feder, and Casey Stone, for keeping everything organized, delivered, and sounding awesome.

Error Code 7 Online Event Friday, July 26

A few months back, I gave an in-person talk about my piece and blog post, Error Code 7, for the Academy of Scoring Arts. Many people were interested but could not be in LA, so I am happy to announce a Zoom version next Friday, July 26 at 10am (PDT). Recorded at the iconic United Recording Studio A, Error Code 7 demonstrates many of the concepts I discuss in this blog. During this Zoom session, I will go through the piece and post and answer…

Killer Mike and the National Symphony

It was a pleasure to add Killer Mike to the list of collaborations I've had with the Kennedy Center and the National Symphony Orchestra over the past decade. He now joins artists such as Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Common, Ne-Yo, and Maxwell with whom we have done shows. This was a last-minute production, so I could not have done it without the help of my team. Thanks to Jeremy Levy, Jordan Seigel, Lauren Elizabeth Baba, Cameron Moody, Carlos Simon, Lorenzo Carrano, Pano Fountas, and Tyler Detulio.…

Unfrosted is Out!

Unfrosted was released on May 3! You have no idea how surreal it is to have Seinfeld in the headphones giving notes! Once again, it was a pleasure orchestrating and conducting Chris Beck's score on this cool project. Check it out on Netflix now.

Mark Lettieri and the Metropole Orkest

Last spring, I was very busy arranging for a wide range of shows. As an arranger, I enjoy the challenge of working on and adapting any musical material. Sometimes you receive material that requires all of your skills to make it work, but other times you are lucky, and the music and artist you are given fit perfectly with the ensemble, making the charts practically write themselves. The latter was the case with Mark Letteri, who trusted me to arrange a few pieces for his…

Tech N9ne and the Kansas City Symphony

Having written shows for the likes of Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Common, Ne-Yo, and Maxwell, it was Tech N9ne's turn to receive the Symphonic Tim Treatment. On May 4th, 2024, at the Midland Theatre, I had the pleasure of conducting my arrangements of over 30 songs with the Kansas City Symphony. Tech is a KC native so it was an honor to bring two Kansas City institutions together.

Orchestration Demo: Error Code 7

I recently had the chance to do some live recording with my friends at Hollywood Scoring, and took the opportunity to put together a piece that could demonstrate lots of my favorite orchestration techniques as well as some issues I commonly encounter when working with scores. I've done an in-depth exploration of my process over on my orchestration blog, deBreved. You can check out Part 1 here!

Jules Buckley and Stevie Wonder

Continuing from my busy summer of arranging work, I had the opportunity to work with Jules Buckley again for a couple shows celebrating Stevie Wonder. The first was a show for the 2023 BBC Proms covering Stevie Wonder's album Innervsisions, with guest soloist Cory Henry. I did arrangements of Something Out of the Blue They Won't Go When I Go Jesus Children of America Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer You've Got It Bad, Girl Jules also came to LA to conduct the Hollywood Bowl…

Strange New (Musical) Worlds

The Star Trek franchise decided to once again boldly go, and aired a musical episode ("Subspace Rhapsody," season two, ninth episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds). Kay Hanley and Tom Polce (members of the band Letters to Cleo) were brought on to do the songwriting, and then I got to orchestrate their tunes. Check out a couple of them below, or stream the whole episode on Paramount+. Status Report: And here's the big finale:
